What is the Web Co-op?

So far as I can tell, the Web Co-op is a brand new strategy in web development! And certainly for Scotland! (Correct me if I'm wrong.....).

The concept is simple - it's fundamentally about getting your web site working for you by sharing responsibility and costs with some trusted business associates.

Getting found, and staying found in the web search engines, usually takes quite alot of work. Your web content needs to be customer focused, relevant to your business, and expertly written. It also needs to have a minimum number of pages and most importantly - a significant number of quality links both from within your own web site and, more importantly, also from other web sites.

Many small new businesses think that they only want a web site with just a couple of pages - just to say a little more about them. That's fine really - but only if you're happy with the fact that people will only (probably!) find your web pages after finding out about your web site via some other advertising mechanism - whether that be a newspaper add, your marketing leaflet, paying for a yell add for instance. It's highly unlikely that the people who use google, yahoo, or msn searches will actually find your pages.

So here's the deal - get together with some friends and colleagues who work in businesses which some how relate to your own (this could be by business type, or geographically, for instance), and decide to jointly develop your web site. This can share a common layout theme or have pages which look as distinct as your own marketing brand.

It takes commitment - you'll have work to do yourself - and you can't let your friends and colleagues down - you can't not pull your own weight - that's not what co-operation is about! So what do you need to do?

  • agree on an design for the home page and your own pages
  • spend time developing your own content, which is customer focused, but also optimised for the search engines.
  • devise a strategy to persuade other people and companies to like to your shared web site.
  • Simple!

You can still have your own web address, you own emails. But you'll benefit from being part of a very much larger web site than you'd create by yourself.

Interested? Please do call us to further discuss your needs and determine your project strategy. It's a fantastic new opportunity!

Please have a look through PerthshirePets as an example - but also note that this is simply one application of the idea, and it is only in it's formative stages. In this case, it's effectively a business focussed local directory - your solution need not encompass this idea.....

Please call us. We'd really like to talk with your about this exciting new opportunity.
